Stargazing evenings run from during the school summer holidays. Evenings outside for this time will be published on this page as and when we are running them

Take advantage of the beautiful dark night skies on the Isle of Wight and learn to explore the heavens.
Stargazing Evenings are held at 8:30 on Wednesdays and some Fridays if requested by six or more people. Pre-booking is required as we are limited to 20 places each evening; in store or over phone 01983 761555 (credit card details are required). No refunds for cancellations.

These evening presentation’s are for people with little or no knowledge of the stars or wanting a refresher, on find your way around the night sky. It will show you what to look for throughout the year and show how the sky changes at different times of the year and why this happens. Also it takes you through some of the basic observing tips, guides you with choosing appropriate and helpful books, observing aids and instruments. You will also each receive a set of notes of everything covered in the evening to take with you.

After the first session which lasts for around 45 minutes, weather permitting there will be an observing session which can sometimes continues until midnight! This will enable you to put into practice something of what you will have learnt. In this session we use telescopes to see some objects in more detail. If skies are not clear we will continue on the dome
